OKLAHOMA

Hammerskin Nation
In Oklahoma, there is some Hammerskin activity, primarily in the form of a white power rock band, Downright Hateful, which is based in Tulsa and nearby Sand Springs. Downright Hateful was scheduled to play at a Volksfront-sponsored concert in Dallas, Texas, in February 2006, but was pulled from the lineup for unknown reasons.

Vinlanders Social Club (VSC)
In 2006, Donald Eugene “Popcorn” Weirich, a founding member of the Hoosier State Skinheads (which merged with Vinlanders Social Club, a large racist skinhead group), moved to Altus, Oklahoma. Weirich claims to be officially retired from the VSC, but maintains close ties with its members.

Unaffiliated Skinheads
October 2008: Darrell Lynn Madden, 38, a self proclaimed racist skinhead, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and kidnapping charges for an October 2007 incident in McClain County. Madden was sentenced to four consecutive life sentenced in prison without the possibility of parole. Madden, along with his alleged accomplice Bradley Qualls, kidnapped and killed the man on October 27, 2007, after which Madden killed the accomplice to prevent him from talking about the incident. Madden, who is already serving a life sentence for killing Qualls, claims to be a member of the Chaos Squad Skinheads.

March 2005: Joshua Jack Tafolla, 22, was arrested March 22, 2005, by Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Police during a traffic stop. Tafolla was a passenger in the stopped vehicle and when asked for identification, claimed he had none. Tafolla told police that his name was “Justin Tafolla.” The police dispatcher informed police that Joshua Jack Tafolla, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest connected to a charge of battery with a dangerous weapon, had a tattoo on his stomach that read, “White Pride.” Officers asked Tafolla to lift his shirt, which revealed the tattoo. Tafolla currently faces the battery charge as well as more recent charges of threatening a violent act and domestic assault against his girlfriend and her sister.

CAVEAT: NOT EVERY SKINHEAD A RACIST
The skinhead subculture was not originally racist —and, in fact, today around the world there remain many non-racist or explicitly anti-racist skinheads (often called sharps, for “skinheads against racial prejudice”).
