Terrorism Strikes America:
What They are Saying
Posted on December 11, 2001
This section looks at Internet responses to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. It provides examples of commentary from a wide variety of groups, from civil rights groups to extremist organizations. This includes both the strongly positive and the strongly negative.

The intent is to provide a snapshot of responses to the tragedy, not to comment on or to categorize the inherent nature of these groups.

Hard-Core White Supremacists/ Organizations:

Aryan Loyalist Magazine. Added 11/29/01. This Florida-based neo-Nazi newsletter exults in the 9/11 attacks in a special "action report" with the following headline: "Blitzkrieg!!! Jew York and Washington D.C. Attacked, Otto Skorzeny style!!! Jihad Against the American Plutocracy!!! No more Jude Trade Center!!!" (Otto Skorzeny was a German SS Commando). The accompanying editorial, by Alex Hassinger, criticizes those who labeled the terrorist attacks as "cowardly." "Where did they found [sic] the cowards from I will never know," Hassinger writes, "but something tells me that these hijackers had balls size of the watermelons [sic]! I only wish our movement had such courageous and dedicated men, as they were."
Hassinger explains that "we have to understand that this attack was a desperate act of a desperate people, who tried to get the attention of the entire world. Our beloved ZOG [Zionist Occupation Government] is supplying the terrorist state of Israel with…billions a year." Anyway, writes Hassinger, "if the Jews are so courageous as the Bible tells us, let them fight their wars on their own and leave us the hell alone!…As for me, I choose my own wars, and this is not one of them. I am National Socialist and Aryan Loyalist, I am not a Jewish mercenary. I pledge my loyalty to my ancestors and my race, not some Jew government in D.C.!"

White Voice. Added 11/29/01. The September 2001 issue of this New York-based newsletter, the organ of the Racial Nationalist Party of America, includes a blaring headline: "GOD BLESS AMERICA. GOD DAMN THE JEWS." It continues: "The Jewish State of Israel, and its Jewish supporters in the United States, in particular, the Jewish lobby which controls our Congress, along with Jewish leaders in Congress and our nation's cabinet, have succeeded in bringing their cursed war, and their wretched enemies to America's shores." Inside, the editorial page informs readers that "Most of you know what we are up against. The New World Order is closing its grip, using the 'Attack on America' to undo everything that America has ever stood for." The war, suggests White Voice, "is not our war. It is the Jew's war. It came to our shores because we gave the Jewish state of Israel a blank check in arms and aid." But, the newsletter claims, that was not enough: "…the Jews want us to commit our blood too. Indeed, the only time the Jews have any use for White people is when it comes time to pay their Jew taxes or to fight their Jew wars." According to the editorial, "the Jews who are pushing this fight are the same Jews who strove to undermine our race, who encouraged the defilement of our blood, the bussing of our children at bayonet point into nigger schools, the mass immigration of non-whites to our borders, and the mass murder of millions of innocent white children through abortion."

Miscellaneous Hate Groups/Anti-Semitic Groups:

American Free Press. Added 11/29/01. This Washington, D.C.-based conspiratorial and anti-Semitic weekly newspaper, the successor to the notorious Spotlight, has repeatedly turned to the subject of the 9/11 attacks as grist for its mill. Its October 29 issue includes an article by Christopher Bollyn titled, "Some Survivors Say 'Bombs Exploded Inside WTC,'" in which Bollyn suggests that the "mainstream media" is ignoring "eyewitness accounts of bombs that exploded inside the World Trade Center before the collapse of the Twin Towers." It also contains an "Urgent and Sensible Message" from "the staff of American Free Press" that asserts that "national survival requires and demands drastic and immediate changes in American domestic and foreign policies." These changes include: 1) sealing America's borders; 2) bringing all U.S. troops home from abroad to seal America's borders; 3) demobilizing most of the U.S. Navy and bringing the rest back from overseas; 4) stopping the Army Corps of Engineers from "building state-of-the-art bases for Israel while American soldiers live and work on domestic bases that resemble slums;" and 5) repair America's rail transportation system. According to the message, "America certainly doesn't need a long and bloody 'world war against evil,' fomented by the New World Order policies of the Bush family and their globalist cohorts."

The November 5 issue's headline screams "Evidence Planted?" The accompanying article by Christopher Petherick suggests that "there are glaring holes in the so-called 'official evidence,' implicating 19 Arab individuals" in the 9/11 attacks. Meanwhile, an article by Michael Collins Piper, titled "Something Stinks About Media Denials of '4,000'," suggests that the debunking by the media of the rumor that circulated the week after the terrorist attacks to the effect that 4,000 Israelis did not report for work at the World Trade Center on 9/11 was actually a straw man designed to hide Mossad foreknowledge of, or involvement in, the attacks. "There is, however," Piper writes, "good reason to believe that at least some Israelis working at the WTC may have had advance warning."

In a November 12 article, "`Anti-Terror' Legislation Undermines Constitution," Clayton Potts claims that terrorists are already accomplishing a major goal: "under the banner of America's new 'war,' Congress is sending Big Brother into your home, your workplace and even into your personal life." Another Bollyn article accuses Israeli intelligence of withholding information on the September 11 attacks.

The November 19 issue's cover article proclaims that "Americans [are] Kept in Dark; Government-Controlled Media Censors Disturbing Facts of War." Articles inside the publication claim that the military campaign in Afghanistan is merely a cover for a struggle to control the natural resources in the Caspian region and assert that the FBI, under the new anti-terrorism legislation, has agents "entering homes and offices, flashing badges and asking for confidential information." An "analysis" by F. C. Blahut welcomes readers to "the New World Order, George W. Bush style…a place where search and seizure are green lighted because we're 'at war against terrorism.'" Blahut asserts that the Founding Fathers "wouldn't recognize this United States."

The Eagle Newsletter. Added 11/29/01. The November-December 2001 issue of this Texas-based "nationalist and constitutionalist cultural commentary on current events" includes a variety of small articles and essays related to the 9/11 attacks, including a statement alleging that the Mossad, Israel's intelligence agency, "probably knew and let it happen." The author asserts this "not because of paranoia about Israeli plots, but primarily because Mossad…has the operatives with language skills who can and have infiltrated…various Islamic networks…But did Mossad plan it? That's hard to say…it's more likely Mossad encouraged and abetted or just sat back and let it happen." The newsletter also contains the graphic below:

Faith Baptist Church. Added 11/29/01. The October issue of the newsletter for this Missouri-based group contains an article by Everett Ramsey titled "America Reaps and Weeps." Ramsey argues that Osama bin Laden did not gain anything from the 9/11 attacks, but that Washington, D.C. and Israel did. The "power hungry" in Washington, D.C., "will no doubt throw out the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and any semblance of International Law to invade Afghanistan and destroy Bin Laden without any evidence that he did anything or who his helpers were. These same brokers of power will create a host of new laws and further restrain the freedoms of Christian Americans." As for Israel, Ramsey writes that "the Israelis have the most to gain by this tragedy." He suggests that the Mossad helped carry out the attack "to get the American people stirred up to declare war on the enemies of Israel."

GANPAC Brief. Added 11/29/01. The November 2001 issue of this Florida-based anti-Semitic newsletter, published by Hans Schmidt, includes the article, "The attacks against the Tower of Babel," in which Schmidt suggests a comparison between the World Trade Center and the Tower of Babel is "quite appropriate," adding that "it is even more so when we consider that, when these edifices were erected, it was the wish of both the One-Worlders and the Oberjuden that the world's finances would 'forever' be directed from this spot." Schmidt says that he has little doubt that the hijackers were Arabs or Muslims, but expresses doubt that Osama bin Laden was involved, "unless he is working for the CIA and/or MOSSAD." While claiming that he personally condemns the attacks, he says, "on the other hand, it takes courage to sacrifice one's life the way the 19 hijackers did." Schmidt also says that "there is no question, however, that Jews are predominant in the financial services," although he can find "only relatively few Jewish names" among the initial victims lists.

The Jubilee. Added 11/29/01. The September-October 2001 issue of this anti-government and anti-Semitic California-based newspaper is a special issue related to the 9/11 attacks; the cover quotes the Book of Revelations: "And another angel followed, saying, 'Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wrath of her fornication.'" Much of the issue is devoted to a lengthy article by David Duke titled "Will Anyone Dare to Ask Why?" in which Duke blames Israel and the "Jewish Lobby and the Jewish-dominated media" for the attacks. Other articles blame the Mossad and immigration for the terrorist acts. Editor Paul Hall's editorial, "Operation Diminishing Freedom," takes much the same tack as Duke, but with an emphasis on civil liberties. Hall suggests the Mossad/CIA are the "real perpetrators," and suggests that the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion explain how Jews "will use world war to fight their enemies and achieve their goal of world governance if they can't do it themselves." However, Hall suggests that the people who "really benefit" from the 9/11 acts are "Bush and his gang of terrorists." What has emerged, Hall says, "is not just a loss of many lives but now the catastrophic loss of liberty-that's what the Americans get out of this tragedy. September 11th was just the excuse they (the Edomite/New World Order crowd) have been waiting for-no matter how it was contrived or by whom." According to Hall, the attacks were "the final death blows of what remains of our liberties granted to free Americans at birth." Hall warns that "as Christians we are doubtless going to face tribulations that haven't been seen since the last Roman empire."

Nationalist Free Press. Added 11/29/01. The October 2001 issue of this Tennessee-based anti-Semitic newsletter includes a cover article by Pastor V. S. Herrell titled "Have the Jews Started WWIII?" in which Herrell asserts that "there is probably no American who is unaware of the recent suicide plane attack on the World Trade Center in New York City that resulted in the collapse of the two financial Jewish icons, symbols of Jewish financial power and Jewish dominance of Jew York." Herrell writes that if the attacks "were indeed perpetrated" by Arabs, the reason is because of the "Jewish Israeli control over America." It is well known, he says, "that the Jewish control over the American government and finances have coerced American politicians into supporting the illegally existing state of Israel." Herrell asserts that "while America reels from the attacks, the arrogant Jews are planning to further provoke and unite the Arab world into what may become World War III by deliberately leading a mob to the very shadow of the Dome of the Rock mosque, avowing to destroy or 'liberate' the Temple Mount from the pagan Arab worshippers…Do these insane Jews know that they are starting World War III? Absolutely." He writes that "the Jews are ready to fight and destroy the Arab world to the last American dollar and the last drop of white American blood." Thus, while "Arabs have become the target of American outrage over the bombings, wiser Americans should direct their anger toward the real culprit-the Jews." Added 11/29/01. The Reformation Online, a New York-based anti-Catholic group, published on its Web site an essay titled "Israelis Bomb World Trade Center!!" which blames the 9/11 attacks on Israel, described as "created by the Jesuits to destroy the Reformation and get the Christians to stop calling the Pope 'Antichrist.'" According to the essay, "America is the leading Protestant Christian country in the world, founded upon life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," which is why "America and her God-given Constitution has always been the FINAL TARGET of Rome." Since the 9/11 attacks, "America is rapidly losing her freedoms and we are becoming a police state like Nazi Germany."

"Patriot" (militia, sovereign citizen, anti-government) Organizations:

The American Voice. Added 11/29/01. The November 2001 issue of this Oregon-based anti-government newsletter contains several articles reacting to responses to the 9/11 attacks. Al Martin contributes an article titled "Citizen Identification Checkpoints Coming," while an article reposed from, titled "'Patriot Act' or Act of Tyranny?", takes aim at the U.S.A. Patriot Act, wondering if the FBI's "true focus" will be on "'crimes' of a political nature." The article describes anti-terrorism responses as a "revolution-introduced from top down," and warns that "any one of us may find ourselves on the wrong side, at any time."

Free American. Added 11/29/01. The November 2001 issue of this New Mexico-based anti-government (and often anti-Semitic/anti-Catholic) magazine sports a cover showing the collapsing World Trade Center with the headline, "9-11-01: WE ARE AT WAR But Who Is The Enemy?" The "Publisher's Corner" written by Clayton Douglas attempts to cast doubt on the "official" version of events, suggesting that it was a "made-for-TV-attack," that drove "an entranced, shocked, mind-numbed population…into a nationalistic fervor." According to Clayton, "the television embedded the concept that Arabs and/or Muslims were behind the attack and when Americans responded as they were programmed by the networks to do, the FBI got their Hate Crime legislation justified." If this was actually arranged, then, "who stands to benefit from a war between Muslim and Christian nations?" Clayton asks. The answer, to Clayton, is apparently clear: "Did you know that in July, the Twin Towers were leased to the 'Silverstein Companies' for a mere 688 million dollars? Did you know they were insured? Did you know that a Pakistani Television station reported that none of the 4000 Israelis and Jews who worked in the building were killed?…Could the Mossad be involved? Could this be an exaggerated case of Jewish lightning?"

Media Bypass. Added 11/29/01. The November 2001 issue of this "patriot" movement magazine includes an editorial by publisher Jim Thomas, "Bush's New War," in which he observes that the U.S. is now fighting the "War on Drugs" and the "War on Terrorism." According to Thomas, "it appears that our Federal Government just cannot manage itself without some kind of war! In wars, constitutional rights are suspended and more powers are transferred to the President by Congress. Such events are necessary to get the New World Order on the fast track." Thomas asserts that "We do not need a war on terrorists; we just need to send all those aliens home to whatever country they came from. Get them out of our Christian nation! Otherwise, nothing will ever change."

Patriot Report. Added 11/29/01. The November/December 2001 issue of this long-running Oklahoma-based newsletter asserts that "patriot researchers" had long been warning Americans about an imminent attack, but no one would listen. Publisher George Eaton writes that "it is obvious that this tragic event will eventually be exploited to the hilt to further the globalist agenda for a one world government, new world order." The people behind this agenda, Eaton continues, may not have had anything to do with the hijacked planes themselves, "but you can be sure they set the stage for the 'surprise attack' by the continued support for Israel, understating the Palestinian suffering, and by failing to inform the public of the backlash danger from the Moslems." However, unlike many in the "patriot" movement, Eaton suggests that "we may lose some of our Constitutional rights during this emergency, but I don't believe that it will be a major inconvenience. We are facing a very complicated terrorist threat and the government will need our help in getting things back to normal. I don't believe that we will lose our gun rights…As far as the threat of foreign troops coming into the country, I don't believe it is a high risk. I believe the strategy for using foreign troops to police America has been changed by the conspirators."

Middle American News. Added 11/29/01. The November 2001 issue of this right-wing newspaper, published by the We the People Institute in North Carolina, contained numerous articles related to the 9/11 attacks and their aftermath. Most, such as "Immigration and Terror: The Threat from Enemies Within," take an extreme anti-immigrant stance. "Because of mass immigration and multiculturalism," suggests the "Immigration and Terror" article, "Third World terrorists can operate inside Western countries without arousing suspicion." Another article, "Most U.S. Muslims are Foreign-Born," attempts to cast suspicion on Muslim-Americans, suggesting that "through immigration and ideological multiculturalism, America has imported a large Muslim population whose loyalty to foreign interests may be stronger than loyalty to America." A news brief about Arab students in the U.S. returning to their home countries was celebratory, because "[the Arab student presence] is used to fuel and justify multiculturalism while it bolsters the efforts of left-wingers who want to replace what's left of our culture and way of life with Third World habits, customs, and values….students from other parts of the world should follow their lead."
